| Sylvia Browne's Trump Taj Mahal EngagementsTwo more of Browne's shows canceled. Why? Published: Jul 18 2008 Trump Taj Mahal BackgroundOn the heels of the cancellation of her future Excalibur engagements, Browne's appearances at another casino have been removed from her schedule as well. The StoryUp until a day or so ago, Sylvia Browne's web site was advertising two engagements she had scheduled at the Trump Taj Mahal Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on August 16 & 17, 2008. Correspondents to the site pointed out to me the fact that the links on Browne's web site to the Taj Mahal's web site no longer worked, and that her engagements were no longer listed on the Taj's site. A phone call to the Taj's box office today confirmed that the engagements have been canceled. When asked the reason for the cancellation, I was told that Browne's management had canceled the shows, and that nothing further was known. AnalysisThere is not much here to analyze, and we are left with the question: why? The Excalibur box office has also stated that the cancellation of Browne's shows there was Browne's idea. Assuming that the person in the box office was correct (and that the Excalibur management did not say to Browne "leave now and we will tell people it was your idea"), why would Browne give up the ten remaining performances she had booked at the Excalibur in July and August, then cancel two more at the Trump Taj Mahal? Perhaps the poor turnout at the Excalibur would account for her quitting there (she has been playing to a half-full 200-seat club for months - quite a come-down from her lecture series, where hundreds, if not thousands of people come to hear her speak). Were sales at the Taj engagements similarly dismal? Perhaps it is Browne's health. She is getting on in years, and decades of smoking have taken their toll on her. Or perhaps she just wants a break. The "June sale" on readings by her son Christopher Dufresne has been extended through the summer, so Browne seems to be pushing him harder than ever. We may never know the real reason why these shows were canceled. Whatever the reason, the cancellation is welcome news. ConclusionMy thanks to those correspondents who pointed this out to me.
